Wedding Cake

“Have your cake and eat it too!”

I’ve been pondering the age old question that asks, “Can you have your cake and eat it too?”   As a health conscious individual, you may feel you are obligated to answer this question with a firm, “NO!” However, here at Eating Enchanted, our answer is a resounding, “YES!”

I’m someone who believes whole heartedly that healthy clean eating is a gift, however we all need to celebrate, and often times, food is central to that celebration. Celebration Food, I like to call it.  I personally cannot imagine life without the occasional slice of birthday cake. Especially, if it is one that I have made!  And for me, Thanksgiving is just not Thanksgiving without my homemade apple pie.  What are your favorite celebration foods?

The key to “having your cake and eating it too” is that celebrations are occasional. They are special times of year that usually entail eating special foods.  Whether it is a holiday dinner or birthday party, you will find yourself drawn to special foods that you do not eat every day, which is okay.  Please give yourself permission to celebrate and eat the foods that help you fully enjoy the celebration. Eating celebration foods occasionally, in moderate and in reasonable amounts, will not throw your healthy eating off course completely.  It will help you enjoy life to the fullest, and help you develop a healthy relationship with food.  If you are giving yourself the gift of healthy eating everyday, then partaking in an occasional slice of pizza or enjoying your traditional Thanksgiving meal is perfectly fine.

One of my goals with Eating Enchanted is to help folks create a sustainable healthy lifestyle that has a foundation in a positive and healthy relationship with food and eating. Part of fostering the gift of healthy eating is to feel satisfied with what you are eating along with being nourished. That is why I spend so much time developing delicious, healthful and nutritious recipes to enjoy everyday. I love sharing these recipes with you through Eating Enchanted as well as serving them to my friends and family at dinner parties and events. However, when the time arises for a special birthday or holiday meal, it is fun give myself permission to enjoy my favorite celebration foods. So, if you give yourself permission, it may be possible for you “to have your cake and eat it too!”
